They are available in single or tandem axle with capacities of 4, 5 and 6 tonne. All come standard with a 400mm wide floor-belt (400 series).

Keep it simple with a standard ground drive, or upgrade to the latest smart, accurate computer control system with weigh scales.

Smart features

  • More stainless for longevity
    More stainless for longevity

Majority stainless at the rear of the machine, extends longevity of gear where you need it most. The stainless discs are run via enclosed stainless spinner tubes and two well-proven hydraulic motors. Easily adjustable tapered roller bearings keep disks tight.

  • Corrosion resistant paintwork
    Corrosion resistant paintwork

All chassis's on SAM Spreaders have seen a new evolution of painting procedure. This is for extra corrosion protection. Firstly a steel grit abrasive blast then a thermal-arc pure zinc spray, a primer followed by a final two-pot epoxy top-coat. It is mega tough stuff!

  • Strong plastic bin
    Strong plastic bin

The polyethelyne plastic bin has proven to be extremely reliable. They are strong, corrosion resistant and UV-stabilised. Fertiliser also slips down the sides and washes off easily when you are cleaning your gear.

  • Even, accurate spread

    Load weigh scales

You can add scales to your spreader. This gives simple, accurate electronic weighing of your feed. And can be zeroed out any time. More info below.

  • Computer control box 1 Computer control box 2 1
    Computer control system

You can also add a computer control system to replace the standard ground drive. This gives hydraulic floor speed rate and control. This easily connects to the likes of TracMap or Trimble to give variable rate spreading from the cab of your tractor. We use the Whitehead system, popular in the trucking industry. They have proven reliability and excellent back up servicing. More info below.

  • Less cleaning with mudguards!
    Less cleaning with mudguards!

Mudguards are moulded from UV-stabilised polyethylene, and resistant to most chemical and organic fertilisers. Debris chips to the chassis and running gear are reduced and less cleaning required. Mudguards come standard on all tandem axle models below 8 tonne.

  • Patterned rubber floor-belt (400mm wide)
    Patterned rubber floor-belt (400mm wide)

Provides a positive non-slip feed of fertiliser onto the spinner discs. A patterned two-ply rubber floor-belt is riveted to hot-dip galvanised steel bars, welded to high-tensile chain. Stainless skirts run alongside.

  • Swivel coupling adds stability

It is mounted on the rear of the machine so you can load from both sides.

Standard cover 1
Standard cover

The standard cover is manually thrown across the load and fixed in place with bungys. Keeping it simple.

Remote greasing S 1
Remote axle greasing

Remote axle greasing saves you time and effort by giving you access to all axle greasing points. They are raised together in a bank in an easy to reach location.

A very effective way to improve machine maintenance, without having to jump under your machine. So keep that gear greased - no excuses!

Tyres 2
Tyre upgrade

We have tough high performing tyres to suit any application. They are chosen for their quality and durability.

We can change tyre sizes to suit your specific needs. The 4 and 5 tonne tandem spreaders use 11.5 x 15.3 tyres but these can be upgraded to larger 400 x 15.5 tyres. The 400 x 15.5 tyres are standard on the 6 tonne spreaders but can be upgraded to the 500 x 17 tyres.

550/60 x 22.5 tyres are an option on all single-axle models. These larger tyres can be excellent if you have softer, wetter conditions.

features002
Computer control system

The Whitehead V3 computer control system can be installed in any of our Spreaders to replace the standard ground drive. This computer keeps the hydraulic driven floor-belt turning independent to the forward speed of the Spreader. Rates can be controlled from the screen inside the cab.

After setup, the V3 controller requires a few quick inputs; fertiliser density, spread width and spread rate.

This brand of computer control system has been chosen for its fantastic track record within the trucking industry. They are number one in their field and have excellent back up service should it ever be required.

If variable rate spreading is required (changing spread rates automatically on the move from uploaded fertiliser mapping) then the the SAM Fertiliser Spreader must be computer controlled combined with the TracMap Pro or similar GPS.

Sometimes there is a misconception that a computer driven Spreader will include as standard a GPS display with light bar guidance and proof of placement software. These components can be easily supplied by third party providers (e.g. TracMap, Trimble) so are not supplied as a standard part of a computer controlled Spreader.

Load cell S 1
Load weigh scales

Load weigh scales give an accurate measure of the weight of feed in the bin. They can be zeroed at any time. A fixed Iconix FX15 display unit is supplied with all SAM machines fitted with weigh scales.

A simple calculation of the weight of feed spread, divided by the area covered, gives a very accurate spread rate (in kg/ha).

Many new tractors have an inbuilt display that will give area covered at certain spread widths.

A simple App for Bluetooth viewing is also available (currently Android only). This App allows you to verify your spread rate at any time.

Brakes 1
Brakes

Brakes are available for tandem axle machines. They are usually located on the front hubs only. The brake system chosen had been well-proven over the years and is very reliable.

Lights and flags S 1
LED Lights and flags

If you are using your machine on the road you will need a set of lights and flags. The flexi mounting boards are made from durable plastic, hardy for knocks and general wear and tear.

Weatherproof lights are LED and plug directly into your power source.

Advantages
  • Fertiliser Spreaders can travel very slowly while spreading at a very high rate (spreading shavings into sheds etc.).
  • Can be upgraded by adding a TracMap Pro to provide variable rate spreading. The desired spread rate changes automatically from one area of a paddock to another.
  • Your Spreader can unload without moving forward.
Disadvantages
  • Tractor must have higher oil flows (approx 100 litres per minute).
  • Most suited to operation behind one tractor as the power supply is hard-wired.
  • Operators need more training.
  • Electronics fitted on Fertiliser Spreaders need more care.

Smart Choices.

To find out which finer details are right for you we have covered off our frequently asked questions.

  • Should I go for a 400mm wide floor mat (400 Series) or an 800mm wide floor mat (800 Series)?

SAM Fertiliser Spreaders (400 Series) are capable of spreading all chemical fertiliser including; superphosphate, urea and lime between 40kg - 2500kg/hectare, with spreading widths up to 20m (superphosphate).

SAM Combo Spreaders (800 Series) are capable of spreading chemical fertiliser including; superphosphate, urea and lime, but will also spread most organic products like chicken and pig manure, screw-pressed effluent and sand.

  • What does a material agitator do?

Offered on 800 Series models only, the material agitator is designed to break up and crumble organic material to improve the flow from the floor belt onto the spinner discs. This process is ideal for cow, pig, poultry manure and compost as it ensures a consistent flow onto the spinner discs.

  • What do load weigh scales do?

Load weigh scales give an accurate measure of the weight of fertiliser or feed in the bin and can be zeroed at any time. As standard, a fixed Iconix FX15 display unit is supplied with all SAM machines that are fitted with load weigh scales.

A simple calculation of the weight of fertiliser or feed spread, divided by the area covered, gives a very accurate spread rate (in kg/ha). This can be used as a check against the required back door setting on a Fertiliser Spreader.

Many new tractors have an inbuilt display that will give area covered at certain spread widths.

  • Can I get proof of placement with any SAM Spreader?

GPS guidance systems and proof of placement can be easily integrated with any SAM Spreader (both 400 & 800 Series) by simply purchasing a third party TracMap system or similar. This works seamlessly from the cab of the tractor. GPS guidance systems and proof of placement can be supplied with either a standard ground driven SAM Fertiliser Spreader or with the Whitehead V3 Computer Controller.

  • What do you offer in the way of computer drives?

The Whitehead V3 computer control system can be installed in any of our Fertiliser Spreaders to replace the standard ground drive. This computer, in its basic form, keeps the hydraulic driven floor-belt turning independently to the forward speed of the Fertiliser Spreader. Rates can be controlled from the screen inside the cab. After setup, the V3 controller requires a few quick inputs; fertiliser density, spread width and spread rate.

There is a common misconception that a computer driven Fertiliser Spreader will include as standard a GPS display with light bar guidance and proof of placement software. These components can be easily supplied by third party providers (e.g. TracMap, Trimble etc.) but are not usually supplied as a standard part of a computer controlled SAM Spreader.

If variable rate spreading is required (changing spread rates automatically on the move from uploaded fertiliser mapping) then the the SAM Fertiliser Spreader must be Whitehead V3 computer controlled combined with the TracMap Pro or similar GPS.

  • What are the advantages of having a computer drive?
    • Fertiliser Spreaders can travel very slowly while spreading at a very high rate (spreading shavings into sheds etc.).
    • Can be upgraded by adding a TracMap Pro (or similar) to provide variable rate spreading, e.g. the desired spread rate changes automatically from one area of a paddock to another.
    • Fertiliser Spreader can unload without moving forward.
  • What are the disadvantages of computer drives?
    • Tractor must have higher oil flows (approx 100 litres per minute).
    • Most suited to operation behind one tractor as the power supply is hard-wired.
    • Operator requires more training.
    • Electronics fitted on Fertiliser Spreaders require more care.
    • Higher purchase cost.
  • What are the most popular optional extras?
    • Remote greasing makes maintenance easy. Greasing is the single most important thing to do to keep your SAM working well over the long-term. It lifts the grease points up together in a bank, saving you time and effort as you don’t have to get dirty under the machine to keep your SAM in tip top condition.
    • A roll top cover is quicker and easier to use than a standard cover. It also stays tucked away on the machine when not in use making it a very popular option.

Swivel couplings, lights and flags, brakes and tyre upgrades are also popular depending on your needs. Have a chat to one of our team any time if you are unsure.

  • Which tow hitch will I need?

You can go for either a swivel or fixed coupling with either a donut or a ball. The swivel tow hitch option provides added stability across varied terrain. The donut eye is used in conjunction with a quick hitch. Various options are below:
